We are thrilled to announce that Persephone Brewing Company has successfully earned Salmon-Safe recertification!
Located in Gibsons, Persephone Brewing Company has demonstrated a strong commitment to meeting Salmon-Safe Agricultural Standards. These standards include criteria for the protection of waterways, water conservation, natural pest management and fertility management, erosion and sediment control, and biodiversity protection.
Their assessment highlights the brewery’s many sustainable features such as:
• A stormwater retention pond to collect run off,
• A composting operation to create good soil health and fertility,
• Regular soil testing to ensure healthy nutrient levels,
• Biodiverse areas throughout the farm ,
• A wastewater treatment system to manage brewery and farm wastewater, and
• Following environmental best practices for pest management
Not only does the stormwater retention pond protect waterways by capturing and slowly releasing rainfall and runoff, but it also features diverse vegetation which increases biodiversity and provides a great habitat for local species. The brewery further supports biodiversity on site by leaving large sections of their property free from production and maintained in their natural states, including areas of forests, meadows, and wetlands. The independent Salmon-Safe assessor also commended the biodiversity in the production areas, with mowing occurring infrequently, and only when necessary.
Initially assessed in 2021, Persephone Brewing Company is now recertified for the next 3 years! Join us in celebrating Persephone Brewing Company for their commitment to sustainable agriculture and taking steps to protect local waterways and salmon.
