We are thrilled to announce that Culmina Estate Winery has successfully earned Salmon-Safe recertification!
Located in Oliver in BC's South Okanagan, Culmina Estate Winery was recertified by the Fraser Basin Council's Salmon-Safe BC program for its ongoing commitment to implementing progressive land and water management practices.
Culmina Estate Winery has demonstrated a strong commitment to meeting the Salmon-Safe Agriculture Standards, which include protecting waterways, water conservation, natural pest and fertility management, erosion and sedimentation control and biodiversity protection.
Their recertification involved a review of the winery’s records and processes, an on-farm assessment, and a report. The independent assessor gave kudos to Culmina Estate Winery for a number of areas of their work.
Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
Culmina Estate Winery has a sophisticated IPM tracking and implementation program. This was introduced in 2024 and ensures the scouting, monitoring, and record-keeping of IPM is thorough and that decision-making is well supported.
Securing Organic Certification
The winery achieved organic certification through the Pacific Agriculture Certification Society (PACS). This demonstrates the effort that Culmina Estate Winery has been making to protect water quality and enhance landscape-level biological diversity.
Erosion and Sedimentation Control
Vineyards are particularly prone to erosion due to their sloped terrain, and it is important to prevent these sediments from washing into waterways and damaging salmon habitat. The assessor highlighted that they've significantly improved this issue and reduced areas of erosion over the last decade.
Initially assessed and certified as Salmon-Safe in 2014, Culmina Estate Winery is now recertified for another three years to winter 2028. Discover more about Culmina Estate Winery and explore their selection of certified wines on their website.
